Photography talk cancelled due to low sign-up
Award-winning photographer Kharen Hill will not be coming to Langara to share her secrets to success on Friday.
The entertainment and advertising photographer was originally scheduled to present a two-and-a-half hour lecture.
According to the spokesperson for the event, the low number of registrations forced Hill’s lecture to be cancelled.
“I am really looking forward to come to Langara … and share my experiences,” said Hill, before learning the cancellation of her lecture.
Studying in Vancouver
Born in New Zealand, Hill grew up around the world in London and New York, but it was in Canada where she discovered her true love.
Although she is now a successful photographer residing in Los Angeles, photography wasn’t something that she always wanted to do.
Her love blossomed for the art during her time at school here in Vancouver.
“I feel like I wanted to work in something I loved but I didn’t know what it was, but it naturally developed in my time at Capilano College,” said Hill.
After graduation, Hill’s career took off, but she will always remember her first movie poster for MGM Pictures.
Hill’s first big break
“It was Disturbing Behavior, Katie Holmes’s first movie,” said Hill.
She added that was the moment in her career where she knew she’s made it, and that if she died then, she would be happy.
Second year arts student, Henry Liu is familiar with many of Hill’s commercial work.
“Her work on movie and TV posters is awesome, she is amazing,” said Liu.
