For first-timers and seasoned veterans alike, public speaking can be absolutely daunting.

But more than 100 students in grades 7 through 12 crammed into Langara’s main gym on Friday to brave their fears and share their scientific hypotheses, processes and results with complete strangers.

Students showcased roughly 120 projects at the Vancouver District Science Fair hosted by Langara on March 7.

Each project was evaluated three times by different judges.  Overall scores were based on a combination of originality, scientific thought, display and presentation.

What exactly were the judges looking for, and what was racing through those students’ minds?

Take a look inside the event.

Approximately 85 of those projects will move on to the Greater Vancouver Regional Science Fair at UBC, which runs from April 10 to 12.
